Grace Joan Crist, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, at the remarkable age of 95. Born on July 31, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, Grace was the treasured daughter of John and Jean Hunter.
Grace spent her early years in Highland Park, Michigan, and Scotland, where she created memories that would shape the warm, spirited woman she became. She was a proud graduate of Denby High School, and it was there that her sharp wit and vibrant red hair first made an unforgettable impression.
Grace was the devoted wife of the late Louis Crist, with whom she shared a long and loving marriage from 1954 until his passing in 2005. Together, they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family values Grace carried throughout her days.
She was the deeply loved mother of Nancy (Dennis) Draplin and Carol (Robert Smith) Steinbrenner, whose lives were enriched daily by her strength, humor, and unwavering support. Her legacy continues in her cherished grandchildren: Jordan (Ali) Alkhalidi, Austin Steinbrenner, Evan Draplin, and Grace Draplin — and in her adored great-grandchildren: Sara, Ahmad, Layla, Yousif, and Mohamed, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
Grace was preceded in death by her dear brother, Charles Hunter, and is survived by a loving circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A true lover of life, Grace had many lifelong friends that she kept near and dear to her heart. She found joy in traveling, gathering with family and friends, and embracing every moment with a sparkle in her eye. She had a bold personality — sassy, sharp, and full of charm, the kind of woman who lit up a room with her laughter and left a lasting mark on every heart she encountered.
Grace’s life was a beautiful journey of love, resilience, and joy. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
