Grace Marie Tocco, born June 26, 1928, peacefully passed away on August 20, 2024, at the age of 96. Grace was always giving of her time, love and generous to all of her siblings, many nieces and nephews and friends, and had several close friendships that continued over 65 years. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church and made attendance and involvement a priority all throughout her life. Grace worked as an Executive Secretary to various executives at the National Bank of Detroit (NBD) and was secretary to the Chairman of the Board of Directors for many years prior to her retirement in 1988 after 42 years of service. She always enjoyed crocheting, was active in the Wayne Garden Club, had joined a weekly women’s quilting group at the local church as well as volunteering at the Wayne Congregational Church’s annual holiday craft and bake sale.
Over the years, Grace cherished her three furry companions, miniature Schnauzers, Andy and Fritz, and later her orange tabby cat, Stretch. Grace was fortunate to have traveled to Europe and visited Alaska, New York City, and many other U.S. states. However, her most cherished times were spending time in Oscoda at the cottage on Lake Huron. She graciously hosted lots of family and friends over the years. Beautiful sights, happy memories and relaxing times were had up north.
Last but certainly not least, Grace was sacrificial and giving of her time and resources as she had the selfless and challenging role of caregiver. Grace was a conscientious and loving steward and caregiver for close family friends and to her Godmother during their final years. Later, she cared for her own mother, Alma, during those end of life, and fragile years.
Grace was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and colleague. She was blessed to live a long, full life. She was one of seven children to parents Charles and Alma Tocco and is survived by two brothers and a sister. Anthony (Lee) Tocco, Fred (Janet) Tocco, and Caroline Baumann, sister-in-law Angie Tocco, the recent late Carl Tocco, the late Bill (Joyce) Tocco, and the late Chuck (Mary) Tocco; as well as twelve nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.
When remembering Grace Marie Tocco, the three words that come to mind are Gratitude, Respect, and Love. She will be greatly missed.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Your reward is waiting for you in heaven. Well done good and faithful servant.
