

John Galeas, age 89, passed away on April 7, 2020. John was born on October 23, 1930 in Detroit MI to Samuel and Mary (Maroos) Galeas. He graduated from Western High School of Detroit. Met his wife Virginia (Gossett) on a summer trip to Saugatuck. They were married on August 25, 1956 and remained so until her death in 2013. John was always giving time to the kids for sports from being the RTJAA baseball director to President of the sports boosters at Thurston High School.
Prior to retiring from Ford Motor Company, he played on Fords softball team for many years, winning many championships. After retiring, he continued to play softball and played in the Senior leagues in Redford. He became an avid table tennis player once he could no longer play softball. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends at the Livonia Senior Center. He loved taking his grandchildren to Belle Isle and many other places when they were growing up. And loved seeing his great grandson.
He is preceded in death by parents and his beloved wife Virginia, siblings Steve (late Irene), Helen (late Lou Trombley), Peter (late Caroline), Charles (late Eva), Georgia, Katherine (late Joseph Karnish). He is survived by his son John Jr (Sue), his grandchildren Brandon (Abi) Galeas and Brittany Galeas, and his great grandson Walter Galeas, his sister Agnes (late Dave) Evlow, and many nieces and nephews.
Honorably discharged for the US Army in 1959. While in the Army he played on the Army’s baseball team while in Germany. He will be missed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
