

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Stevens Holden, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 17, 2025, at the age of 87, in Michigan. John spent his life sharing his love of God, family, nature and animals. He was a lifelong piano player, and a student of the Bible with a passion for fly fishing.
John was born in a small town in Vermont on the shores of Lake Champlain and grew up helping run his family's apple orchard. John graduated from Cornell University, served in the Air Force and earned his MBA from University of Pittsburg upon his return from Vietnam. He moved to the Detroit area in 1965 to begin his career with the Ford Motor Company. He studied at night for his Masters of Divinity degree, and taught several Bible Studies at churches in Dearborn, Livonia and Northville. He and Marilyn traveled frequently to visit family across the country in between fishing trips.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Marilyn Holden, daughter Linda Holden Wisehart of Colorado, his sister Ann Holden Neville, his grandchildren Elizabeth Glaser and Timothy Glaser, and many extended family members.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Gathering hours will take place on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Ward Church and Northville Civic Concern in his memory.
