Laura Stephanie Sarnacki, the first of three daughters, was born on August 20, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to John and Irene Antoskiewicz. Laura passed away peacefully in her Northville, Michigan home with her family by her side, on June 15, 2021, at the age of 86.
Laura was the beloved wife of Dr. Carl J. Sarnacki for 63 years. Loving mother of John (Wilma), David (Bridget), Paul (Maureen), Dr. Carl C. (Kathy), Mark (Denise), and Maria (Sim Huang).
She was a dear grandmother (known as “LaLa”) to her 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Sister of Marie Toth of Omaha, Nebraska and the late Christine Antoskiewicz. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Laura received her bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and taught History and Social Studies in the Detroit school system. As her family grew, Laura decided it was best to stay home and care for her family that was more than a full time job. Laura had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved. She was famous for her Polish food, especially pierogis as well as her German apple pancakes. She loved to throw parties for her family members and in addition to cooking, she often provided the entertainment by playing old show-tunes on the piano. Laura enjoyed spending time and sharing memories with family in Juno Beach, Florida. In her later years, she remained very active by walking, biking, and water aerobics. Her gentle smile and huge heart will be deeply missed. With passion for her family, she enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile, Livonia, MI 48152. Laura’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass by Father Tom Belczak at 1:00pm on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 Haggerty Rd., Plymouth, MI 48170, with final viewing beginning at the church at 12:30pm.
Laura will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery 25800 W. Ten Mile, Southfield, MI 48033.
