Logan Michael Barnes was an extraordinary young man with a heart and personality as big as he was. Born on February 27, 2005, Logan was wise and mature far beyond his 20 years. He lived a fearless, vibrant, adventurous life, always eager to seek new experiences. His love for family and friends was unmatched, and those who loved Logan did so fiercely in return.
Logan unexpectedly left us on Saturday, December 27, 2025, due to a still-undetermined brain mass. Logan passed away peacefully in Traverse City, surrounded by and held by those who loved him most. Logan was a soul too bright for this world, leaving an incredible and lasting mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Logan graduated from Livonia Stevenson High School in 2023 and was a college junior pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield. He was intelligent, hardworking, and driven, with a deep passion for learning. Logan was eagerly looking forward to a potential internship this summer and was excited about his bright future as a mechanical engineer – one he would have excelled in.
In addition to his demanding academic schedule, Logan played hockey on the LTU Division III team for the past three years, happily spending five days a week on the ice. During his freshman year, he played a key role in assisting his LTU hockey teammates to capture the ACHA National Championship title and Logan was named to the All Tournament First Team for the National Tournament. He was also awarded Rookie of the Year, recognized by his coaches and captains as the most valuable first-year player.
Logan continued to shine during his sophomore season, helping LTU earn another National Tournament appearance. He was named on the MCHC All-Conference East First Team and the ACHA All-Athletic First Team, marking the first time a player in LTU history achieved First Team honors. Loved and respected by his coaches and teammates, Logan was named Assistant Captain this year and was looking forward to yet another appearance at Nationals.
Throughout his youth hockey career, Logan and his teammates achieved remarkable success, winning three State Championships and three Regional Silver Stick tournaments. They were runners-up at an International Silver Stick Tournament, followed by an International Silver Stick Championship victory the next year, earning a plaque with their team name displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
Logan was known for his goofy, adventurous spirit and his ability to find joy in everything he did. Whether he was on the ice playing hockey, riding dirt bikes and ATVs up north, or spending time playing games and laughing with family and friends, Logan lived life with a passion that was uniquely his. He embraced life fully, always seeking adventure, connection, and moments that could be shared with the people he loved most.
Above all, Logan had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued. He instinctively looked out for others, often putting their comfort and safety ahead of his own. From helping a nervous elementary school student find the courage to take their first steps onto the school bus, to staying late after a business closed to ensure a friend made it safely to her car, Logan’s kindness was constant and genuine. He was never hesitant to help a stranger in need or to drop everything to support his family and friends. Thoughtful in all that he did, Logan consistently went above and beyond to care for those around him, always ensuring his loved ones felt supported and protected.
Logan is survived by his parents, Michael and Lori Barnes; his older siblings, Amberly, Kaedra, Joseph, Kolin, and Aubry; his beloved niece, Harper; and his grandparents, Wayne and Pat Farley. He also leaves behind a close-knit community of friends who were truly like family. Logan was a devoted son, a loving brother and uncle, a cherished grandson, a loyal friend, a valued teammate, and so much more. Those who were fortunate enough to know him will forever remember his kind heart, brilliant mind, and the light he brought into their lives.
A visitation to celebrate Logan’s life will be held on Sunday, January 4, at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152, beginning at 11:00 AM with a memory sharing service to follow at 4:00 PM.
