Martha J. Bailey-Ault

Martha J. Bailey Ault, of Northville, Michigan entered into eternity on Monday, October 25, 2021. Martha Jane was born June 2, 1931 to parents William Taulbee and Hattie Cody Bailey of Hindman, Kentucky. Martha Jane lived and grew up in the Bailey Hotel. She was surrounded by rambunctious brothers, three sisters, parents, paternal grandfather and many interesting hotel guests. Martha liked to recall that as a little girl she would stand by the hotel stairs and ask the guests for a shiny new penny which she then placed in a matchbox. When asked if she would rather have a dime, she would decline in favor of the penny. This act earned her the nickname of Penny Jane. Martha would tell tales of a different time when she and the local kids would play in "the lane" between the courthouse and the hotel, and how the people gathered in 'the lane" in awe and fear when the Aurora Borealis lights turned the sky in Hindman to blood red.

Martha Jane attended Hindman High School. After graduation she moved to Michigan where she worked as a Clerk in an FBI office. She lived and worked in Cincinnati, Ohio, worked as Hindman City Clerk, and later worked for and retired from General Motors. Martha Jane was a member of the Hindman United Methodist Church. She loved family, friends, and working in her flower garden. If the sun was shining, Martha could be found outside.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Ault; her sixteen siblings; her grandson, Cody Stringer; her granddaughter Kristen Pustover; and her son-in-law Leonard Brashear. She is survived by her six daughters, namely Kimberly Brashear, Lisa Morelli, Kay (Dave) Pustover, Peggy Cornett, Carla Burke, and Tina (Robert) Lunsford. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
