

Mary Olivero, was born January 1, 1933 in Detroit. Her parents Francesco and Virginia were born in northern Italy near Turin. Francesco came to America in the early 1920’s to work in coal mines in western Pennsylvania. He went back to Gravere to marry his sweetheart, Virginia, and they returned to America and settled in Detroit in 1929. Francesco worked hard in the GM foundry. Mary and her older brother Frank were raised in east Detroit. She began working after high school and attended college classes at night for many years, earning her Bachelors and Masters degrees. She worked for Wayne County in administration for many years. She enjoyed studying Italian and keeping in touch with family in Italy. In 1982, she suffered a severe stroke which left her unable to speak and partially paralyzed. Despite these challenges she maintained a positive attitude. She moved to Livonia in 1988 and with the help of her brother, Frank, lived independently for many years. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Collette Catholic Church. She enjoyed walking at the mall, having coffee, going out to eat, and giving gifts to family and friends. She had a persevering spirit and was a loving, generous, kind, and friendly person.
Mary passed away November 28, 2017. She was predeceased by her loving brother, Frank. She was cherished by her nieces Adele and Arlene and their families, and will be greatly missed. Visitation at St. Colette Catholic Church 17600 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, MI 9am, funeral mass 10am on Monday December 4, 2017. Mary will be interred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
