Phyllis Mary Sheibels was born on July 3rd, 1925 to Alec and Mary Redding of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. She often spoke fondly of her childhood in Winnipeg, recalling swimming in the Red River, or sharing memories of her brothers and sister. Phyllis especially cherished her father, an English immigrant who worked for the railroad.
After attending business school, Phyllis moved to Windsor, Ontario Canada in the early 1950’s and worked in Detroit at the historic Maccabees Building as a secretary. While attending a church picnic at Pontiac Lake, Phyllis was introduced to Wilbur A Sheibels; after a brief romance they were wed on February 20th, 1954. Married nearly 61 years, Phyllis and Wilbur made Farmington Michigan their home where they raised their three children David (Gale Carmona), Thomas (Dorothee), and Linda DeForge (Chris).
Phyllis loved her family dearly. She was the presence that made their house a home. She enjoyed family gatherings, baking with her daughter Linda (peanut brittle, cream puffs, and Boston cream pies were her specialties), and attending instrumental or vocal music concerts during her children’s school years. She was always ready with a kind word of encouragement.
Phyllis has six grandchildren whom she loved dearly; Kimberly Sheibels Majors (Craig), Jeffery Sheibels (Valerie), Michael DeForge (Kimberly), Kevin Sheibels, Daniel DeForge, and Celina Sheibels. She had a gentle way of making each one of them feel uniquely special and loved.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Gordon and Douglas Redding. In addition to her husband and children, Phyllis is survived by her sister Margaret VanDevan (Marinus).
