Reta passed away peacefully under the gentle care of Angela Hospice in Livonia, Michigan on March 9, 2019 at the age of 92.
Reta was the beloved wife of the late Earl Tomalty until he passed away in 1978. Reta was lucky enough to find love again and married her second husband, the late William Newman who passed away in 2016. She was the loving mother of Kimberly (Kevin) Barber and step-mother of Mark (Cindy) Newman. Dear grandmother of Ryan (Jennifer) Kuz, Brandon Kuz, Zachary, Blaise, Max Barber, Aiden Newman, and Dallas Newman. Proud great-grandmother of Nolan Randal Kuz. Sister of the late Gerald Boyd. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Hamilton, Ontario. However, she will be especially missed by her niece Judy Oakley and her nephew, Wayne Sandilands. Reta will also be missed by her dear friends at Ashford Court in Westland, Michigan who became her family when she moved there.
Reta enjoyed skiing and was an avid figure skater in her youth growing up in Quebec. As a wife and mother, Reta was a fun Girl Scout Leader. She kept an immaculate home and had a perfectly manicured lawn that no one was allowed to walk on. Reta loved people and loved socializing. Going out to dinner with her family was one of her favorite pastimes. In her later years, she enjoyed the activities with her friends at Ashford Court. It seemed that once she arrived there and met her new flock of friends, she became somehow more of a happy free-spirit. She had so much fun socializing with her Ashford Court family. However, her passion was her family. She simply loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Reta could always be heard telling stories about her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Reta’s family will receive friends beginning at 11am for a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 12pm at Harry J. Will Funeral Home 37000 Six Mile Road (Just east of Newburgh and I-275) Livonia, Michigan 48152. Luncheon to follow. The service will be led by Chaplains Bill and Julie Jenkins who she became friends with while at Ashford Court. Reta will be laid to rest with her family in Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, Michigan.
