Dick befriended me instantly in 1970,as a young rookie i looked for help everywhere. As many new i couldn't fight to save my butt at the best of times. Dick was able to pull a few guys off me to prevent them from killing me.He was also one of the few who laughed at my jokes.
When i was down and out looking for a friend he was there with ted to welcome me. Thanks big brother.

I have many fond memories of working and socializing with Dick, when we worked together on the old Two Section of the LPS. He was a mentor to the young officers, always willing to provide sound advice. He was often the voice of reason, when answering a call from the public. He would often join us shooting billiards at lunchtime. Dick had a great sense of humour, and so many other wonderful characteristics that the younger officers that he worked with, would look up to. I will miss him. Thinking of you Janet and family. Spence

Our deepest condolences to Janet, Bob, Melissa and the whole Short family .
Couldn’t have asked for a better next door neighbor.
Shared a lot of long good conversations that covered everything under the sun . He was a great hearted man and treated everyone with respect.
When we first moved in next door , I asked to borrow a weed wacker from him, his reply to me was “ my shed in ever locked , anytime u need anything just go in my back yard and grab whatever u need, don’t have ask me “ . That’s when I realized I got a great neighbor who also turned out to be a great person . He will be greatly missed for sure .

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dick. Dianne and I both were fortunate to work with Dick at 601 Dundas. Dick was a gentleman to all unless they deserved the other side which was rare to come out but it sure did work.
We are much better people for having known Dick and his memories will stay with us into eternity.
Sincerely,
Dale and Dianne Whitelaw
