She worked for the war effort in her teens during World War II and met her husband, Henry, at a dance for servicemen. They were married July 5, 1947 in Hill, England. Dora made the ocean voyage to Canada in January, 1949, with 2 mos. Old Howard, suffering great sea sickness. She and Hand settled in London East then moved to London west for 28 years.
Music was a big part of Dora’s life: she had fantastic soprano voice… likened to Nana Mouskuri… Dora had the voice of an angel. She sang solo in church choirs at Mt. Zion United in London and St. John’s United in Flesherton. She also sang in recitals with various choirs around London.
Dora and Hank moved to their ‘cottage’ fill time on Lake Eugenia in 1978. She was a very involved with the Seniors group in Flesherton often playing the piano for singalongs. They had greatneighbours in Doug and Eleanor Freeman and Bill and Rose MacDonald.
After Hank passed away, Dora moved back to London in 1997 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She lived in an apartment in Cherryhill and enjoyed doing her errands at Cherryhill Mall… where she found her favourite place to eat ‘Georges’ as she liked to call the small restaurant the mall.
Dora was a loving mom and a wonderful person. She loved watching her grandchildren grow into the fine adults they are and was a loving great grandmother to 8 greatgrandchildren. She has left a wonderful legacy in them.
