Pre-deceased by her siblings – Florence Clarke, Bruce Weber, Hilda Ryan, Arlene Bicknell, Edith Wigglesworth and infant brother Grant Weber.
Following her graduation from the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in 1939, Helen began her fulfilling career as a dedicated nurse working in a variety of units within Victoria Hospital.
Helen had an outstanding talent for needlework, investing many hours in her knitting, smocking, sewing and quilting. The family will cherish her beautiful artistic quilts for many years to come and will pass them down to future generations. Helen discovered that she had some hidden talents such as the ability to rebuild her player piano, to decorate specialty cakes and to reupholster a few favourite pieces of furniture. As an avid puzzler, she spent many hours completing crosswords and especially loved the cryptic type.
In their younger years, Helen and George enjoyed playing badminton, dancing to the “Big Bands” at the Stork Club and travelling to many destinations around the world. She especially cherished their trip to her ancestral country Germany.
Helen was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a devoted member of the choir. She participated in Bridge Clubs and enjoyed her monthly luncheons with her fellow retired nurses. Most importantly, Helen loved spending time visiting with her family.
The Wherry family wants to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mount Hope for their excellent care and compassion over the past two years.
