Jean was born on January 5, 1948, to William and Marjorie Gunness, and grew up in a close and caring family. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Carol and Ed, and her brother and sister-in-law Carman and Nelda. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Margaret, brother-in-law Steve, dear friend Shirley, many nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
Despite life’s challenges, Jean’s bright spirit and sense of humour touched everyone she met. She loved people, teasing those around her with a twinkle in her eye. As a young woman, Jean moved into independent living alongside her friend Shirley, and for many years she worked in a sewing workshop, taking great pride in her work. She was a creative soul, known for the beautiful crocheted afghans she made for her nieces and nephews. Jean had a soft spot for animals—often sporting her favourite animal slippers—and enjoyed music (especially Elvis), sing-alongs, playing bingo, watching TV shows, shopping for gifts, and sharing coffee and conversation.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Cindy from University Hospital, Nancy and the staff at Community Living London, and all of the staff at McGarrell Place for their kindness, compassion, and care, especially during this past year.
Jean’s laughter, love, and gentle teasing will be deeply missed, but her warmth will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Community Living London in Jean's memory.
