On Christmas morning, a month after her 91st birthday, our dear Mom and Baba passed away at Strathmere Lodge in Strathroy. Maria (Nosko) Zima was born in the Ukraine, married in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1949. She came with her husband George (2007) and son Leonard. Nellie and Natalie were born in Canada. Maria was a hard worker in everything she did - whether harvesting sugar beets out west, toiling through tobacco season, picking apples or doing the farm and garden chores outside of Mount Brydges. Len married Luda (Alexeew) and they had two sons - Andrew (Natalia) and Tim. Nellie married Rob Prangley and they had two sons - Gregory (Shelley) and Michael (Heather). Natalie married Art Craig and had Adam (Laura) and finally, a granddaughter Katrina. All the grandchildren loved their Baba's cooking and baking and being spoiled. Their great-grandchildren Matthew and Alexis Zima, Hayley, Emma and Logan Prangley, Parker and Lynton Craig and Emerson Prangley were the light of her life. Besides baking and cooking, Maria loved writing letters to keep in contact with far-away friends, reading and she had an open and inquisitive mind about nature and the world. She had numerous scrapbooks filled with articles that interested her. She took up crocheting in her 60's and we all have many pairs of "Baba" slippers and afghans. She was a person of great faith and always thanked God for her blessings. We will miss her and mourn her death but her life will be celebrated. Many thanks to the staff at Strathmere Lodge for taking good care of Mom. She considered her room her home. Visitation will be held at Needham Funeral Service (520 Dundas St, London) on Friday from 6pm to 8pm with Panachida to be held at 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday December 30, 2017 at 10 am at Christ the Saviour Russian Orthodox Church (140 Fairview Ave, London) with interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
God be with you, Mom!
