Talya Missiuna

February 20, 1925 – November 9, 2023

On November 9, 2023, in her 99th year, Talya slipped peacefully away to eternal rest in the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Tayla was surrounded by close family at Extendicare Hamilton, where she had been a resident since November 2022.

Tayla was born in the Ukraine, she and her family survived the turmoil of the Ukraine. During the 2nd World War she was taken to a work camp in Germany where she was trained to be a nurse and worked as a nurse. After the 2nd World War she immigrated to Canada being sponsored by a psychiatric Hospital in Winnipeg. After working off her sponsorship, she moved with her family to London, Ontario. After marrying Cesar Joseph Missiuna, “Mama” was a loving mother and Christian role model to her six children: Lydia, Paul (Cheryl), Anatoly (Lynnette), Julius, Boris (Elena) and Victor (Carolyn). She cherished and is survived by 16 grandchildren and their spouses Nathalie, Jeremie (Christelle), Katia, Nathan, Timothee (Myriam), Christopher (Natasha), Adam, Stephen (Alanna), Sharalynn, Peter, Emily, Amy, Melody, Beautiful, Sarah, Ezekiel and 8 great-grandchildren: Joris, Soren, Selenn, Eliott, Théophile, Abigal, Nehemie and Clara. Talya was predeceased by her husband, her father, mother and step-mother, and her siblings James and Paula.

After raising her children to adulthood, Talya opened her Christian home to church-sponsored refugees, helping them to settle in London, Ontario. Never forgetting her origins, for many years, Talya also collected supplies and gently-used clothing and mailed large boxes of essential items to individuals in need in the Ukraine.

A visitation will be held at Needham Funeral Service, 520 Dundas St, London, Ontario Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. From 3:30 PM to 4 PM there will be a celebration of life service. A memorial service will occur Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM followed by a committal service. Following the committal a celebration of life dinner will be held at the House of Prayer 1170 Wilton Grove Rd, London, Ontario N6N 1C8 (519)681-3877.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Way to God P.O. Box 3352, Station B, London, Ontario N6A 4K3, or House of Prayer or the Salvation Army.
