

Adrienne Drucilla Smith was born on August 29, 1950 to Susie Carlie Holliman Evans and Walter Mac Evans in Hattiesberg, Mississippi. Adrienne was born the third child of ten children, preceded by brothers Larry Evans and Richard Evans, and followed by brothers Walter Mac Evans, Jr., Jessie Evans, Tony Evans, sister Wanda Evans, brother Daniel Evans, sister Mary Evans and brother Noel Evans. Adrienne is survived by her children James Smith, Tomeka Smith, Salaneka Causey Smith and grandsons Dennis Hubbard and Kygee Smith. She is also survived by brothers Richard Evans, Walter Mac Evans, Jr., Jessie Evans, Tony Evans, sister Wanda Evans and brother Daniel Evans. Adrienne is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, step-siblings and great nieces and nephews.
Adrienne moved to California in 1967 to complete her high school education at Compton High School, and to begin her studies as a Dental Assistant and Certified Nursing Assistant. She studied at Compton Community College and began her career working in the dental and healthcare industries. Adrienne got married to James Smith and gave birth to James B. Smith and Tomeka Monique Smith. After her divorce, Adrienne moved back to Mississippi, met Billy Causey and began a new relationship. Adrienne gave birth to her third child, Salaneka Causey Smith, and after three years of living in Mississippi, relocated back to California. Adrienne worked in the dental and health care industries for more than 25 years before retirement. Adrienne is a grandmother to grandsons Dennis and Kygee, and an aunt to Shenette, Rashan, Ralph, Solmonya, Raquel, Rochelle, Tonysha, Tony Evans, Jr., Dana Evans, Boobie, Camille, Kisha, Brianne, Keisha and LaShaun. Adrienne is a great aunt to Tyler, Armani, Ezra, Xavier, Takyra and many more.
Adrienne was an extraordinary human being, who was filled with strength, kindness, compassion and humor. She was an excellent cook, baker, domino and card player, and a beautiful mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Her beautiful smile and memorable laugh are unforgettable and live on in our memories of her. Adrienne loved to spend time with family, friends and traveling. She was one of the most amazing cooks ever known in our entire family! We can still taste her amazing and delicious greens, beans, cornbread, cabbage, cakes, cookies, pies, potato salad, dressing, salmon croquettes and crookneck squash! Adrienne had a special gift to create culinary masterpieces, along with her partner of twenty years, Paul Evans. Paul was a great man and partner, who was a professional chef and loved to cook at home with Adrienne. They were an incredible team of culinary wizards, and we were very grateful to be the fortunate recipients of their talents and love. Adrienne loved Soul music and dancing, and one her fondest memories that she loved to share, was of her attending the Motown Concert in Detroit for her 16th Birthday. Adrienne described it as one of the most amazing experiences she ever had in her entire life; she enjoyed the musical talents of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, The Supremes and The Temptations. She was also taken backstage to meet all of these incredibly talented musicians. She loved to dance and spend time listening to classic soul music, jazz and the blues.
Adrienne loved to travel, and enjoyed numerous vacations and trips to visit family in Mississippi, New Orleans, Chicago and Detroit. Adrienne also enjoyed attending the NBA All Star Game and vacationing in Las Vegas, San Diego, Lake Havasu, Arizona and Camp Jean, Nevada.
Our spirits live eternally, and Adrienne’s beautiful spirit continues to shine brightly, filling us with love and joy as she lives on in eternal peace, love and happiness.
