

James Joseph Greer, known to his family and friends as "Uncle Jimmie" or "Jim," passed away on January 3, 2012 in Long Beach. He was born November 9, 1929 in Compton, California. He was the oldest of 3 children born to James Francis and Mary Margaret Greer. He had 2 sisters, Patricia Johnson (deceased) and Sheila Kuskie of Lakewood. Jim graduated from St. Anthony's High School in Long Beach on June 4, 1948 and then joined the Army on October 19, 1948. He served for 3 years and extended 1-year to serve in the Korean War. He was a sergeant in the infantry and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars, a United Service Medal of Merit and a Unit Commendation. He had a wonderful ear for music and was able to play the piano without a lesson. He entertained many family and friends throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his sister, Sheila (Chuck) Kuskie; 11 nephews; 2 nieces; 20 great-nieces and nephews; and many friends from Friendly Village Mobile Home Park where he lived. His nephew Michael Kuskie lived with him this past year as his health was failing. He was a loving brother and uncle and will be sorely missed. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Pancratius Catholic Church on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at All Souls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to St. Pancratius School.
