It's been a year now and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think about Mike. Mike was not only the strongest, kindest, most loving, inspiring and courageous man I ever knew, he was my best friend and my brother.  I will miss my brother Mike every day for the rest of my life and cherish every memory of the wonderful times we spent together. My son, Daniel Vera, was a little boy when he knew Mike. Mike helped train my boy with gentleness. His physical strength had all students and parents in awe. It was a stark counterpoint to his gentle soul. My son called me today to let me know. God Bless the Bitonio family.  Joe, Estelle, and Dr. Daniel Vera.

Debbie, Katie, Joel, and Luke - Mike will be dearly missed by us all.  I had the good fortune of knowing him for 5 years in Durango and was so psyched when I'd get a chance to see him anytime there after.  I did not know him in the Martial Arts arena, but knew the cloth from which he was cut - and he truly was not to be denied when he set his sights on something.  He was such a character on so many forefronts.  He was funny, athletic, compasionate, street-smart, and you knew he always had your back (a good thing when you weigh a buck fifty soaking wet).  He had such a profound impact on all of us that met him at Fort Lewis College and his legacy will continue to live, through you 4 and those of us fortunate to have him in our hearts.  He truly was a brother to me - he always encouraged me to do my best and always supported me trough difficult times.  He was a man that exemplified what so may of us strive to be.  Your loss is felt by us all.

To the Bitonio family. Mike was in the high school in Delta during the time I taught there.  What a fun young man! He was an inspiration to other kids and a good friend.  My deepest condolences to you.

Mike, who enjoyed playing the Beach Boys as loud as possible in the weight room at DHS and singing to it, again as loud as possible. You were a very upbeat teammate and friend. Enjoyed playing football with ya man. You will be missed.

When parents raise thier children,  there is always a concern for who they hang with.  Michael was one of those I never worried about.  My son Andy felt a brotherhood with a great guy.

We will miss Mike. He was such a great person. Mike taught me alot. He taught me to never fear anything or anyone. I remember driving thru a blizzard in the San Juan mountains with Mike. We were in Mike's old Gremlin, the drivers window was blown out. We were praying to make it home. Mike made me laugh the whole trip. Mike was the ultimate family guy. He will be missed more than words can express. God bless you Mike.

Mike had an incredible impact on my life. I was blessed to be able to work with him for 2 1/2 years. He is such a great father, teacher of everything, and all around family man. I never met anyone that always spoke so highly of his family. I used to love hearing about football seasons for the boys, dancing class with his wife, and all the new things with Katie. I will truely miss him. He was a great leader, teacher, and friend. My prayers are you Bitonio family.

I have many fond and fun memories of attending high school with Mike he truly was a great man and an exceptional athlete my heart is deeply saddened. I have never known a more positive person in my life. I was lucky enough to meet Mr Bitonio through his son "Bubba". I coached Bubba in basketball while he was in High School.  I can still to this day hear him yelling "Make em work" from the stands. My haeart and prayrs go out to the family, and I would just like to say I feel lucky that I was able to get to know him.

Mikes childhood photo pretty much says it all. Even when he was putting the hurt on you he had that smile. While wearing his Wolfpack hat he had the same smile. Mike always had a postitve influence.

Mike was my brother Tom's best friend since childhood and best man at his wedding. So, I guess Iv'e known him that long also. He was an awesome man and a no nonsense straight shooter who was a pleasure to know.  We were so sorry to hear of your loss. My family's thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow. He had a small impact on my life when I was younger watching him fight in that epic battle even though I've never even met the gentleman. We were touched to see someone with so much heart and fought to support his family. To Mike's family...please know Mike was respected around the world, literally an MMA generation came to truly respect the warrior and family man he was and always will be.
