Mildred Marie Kolstad was born July 27th 1924 in Long Beach California to Edward and Marie Shubert. According to her siblings, she was the only foreigner in the family as they were all born in Louisiana. She had three sisters, Loyce, Olive, and Lorraine, and Two brothers, Edward and Bob. “Mickey” as she was known to most was a tan, dark haired beauty with green eyes who fell in love and Married her husband Al of 69 years. They met when she was working in the Shipyard during the war and their love was a story that outlasted most. They lived in San Francisco during the war until settling in Lakewood and raising their Four Children; Susan, Stephen, J. Michael, and Jean Ann. Grandchildren; Patrick, Julie, Cari, Christopher, and John. Great grandchildren; Patrick Jr., Sean, Kaela, Haley, Shauna, Sierra, and Kent. Mickeys Family was her life! She made her home into a welcome and warm place for all and loved to build roaring fires in the fireplace. Mickey enjoyed camping with her family and loved going to the beach even though it wasn’t Al’s favorite place. She attended St. Maria Gorretti church since its founding and served at mass on Saturday evening service. She would always have a story of fun times from the past to share with anyone who wanted to sit with her and she could often be found reading in the den. She was the toughest person I knew and nothing could stop her from doing what needed to get done. Don’t forget that Mickey loved you and would want you to remember those fun times you shared, to work hard, be humble, and to continue to say your prayers.
