Bob was born February 20, 1929 in Dallas, Texas, to Robert and Myrtle (Cowan) Davis. On November 21, 1987 he married Roxann Langum, who survives. Bob’s family moved to the Long Beach area in 1934, where Bob attended Long Beach Poly High School. Immediately after graduating from high school, Bob enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Korea as a part of the post-World War II Occupation Force, serving as an MP. Following his military service, Bob received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UCLA. He attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, and served Lutheran churches in Wisconsin and Madera, California. Bob went to work for the Los Angeles County Probation Department, where he worked until his retirement after 29 years in 1993. During his “retirement” years, Bob was blessed to serve again in several pastoral duties. He enjoyed visiting patients in the hospital, leading the liturgy, serving communion, and preaching. One of the highlights of his last year was presiding at the wedding of his son Joel and daughter-in-law Sabra in Houston.
Bob loved to read, listen to classical music, and travel (especially to Yosemite), but spending time with his family and friends was his passion.
Bob is succeeded by his wife Roxann; his sons and daughters-in-law, Joel and Sabra Davis (Houston, TX) and Daniel and Terry Davis (Monterey, CA); his daughter, Esther Davis (Pasadena, CA); daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi and Curt Lustig (West Townsend, MA) and Rebekah and Alexis Pagis (San Francisco, CA); and by six grandchildren, Christina and Caitlin Davis and David, Peter, Joseph, and Elizabeth Lustig.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach. Burial will take place at Rose Hills in Whittier, California, on Monday, January 24.
