On October 7, 1928, Sylvia Sturz was born at the home of her parents in San Diego, California. Sylvia passed away in her home in Long Beach, California on July 31, 2013; she was 84 year’s young.
Sylvia was the youngest of five children. Sylvia attended primary and secondary school in San Diego; after her high school graduation, she went to San Diego State University for one year, then attended Westmont College with her older sister, Alice, for two years. She returned to San Diego State and received her bachelor's degree. Sylvia married James Hall Boyd on Friday, April 13, 1957.
Further post-secondary education by Sylvia resulted in state certification in Speech Pathology. Over the course of her professional life, Sylvia taught in elementary, middle and high schools and was a Speech Therapist in the public school system. In 1960, Sylvia and Jim were blessed with a baby boy, James and again in 1962, another boy, Thomas. In 1966, James, Sylvia and their boys began a mission to serve The Lord on the West Coast of Africa. Their mission in Africa lasted for a total of five years, yet continued by phone and correspondence for years later.
Sylvia is survived by her husband James, sister Alice, two sons, and daughter-in-law’s, nine grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her love for Jesus Christ knew no bounds and she is with Him in Glory now.
