Virginia was the mother of one of my best friends in high school. Truly a lady of faith, hope and charity.

Our family has your family in our thoughts and prayers, and I hope you are able to focus today on the joy Virginia spread throughout her lifetime.
Virginia was my mother's best friend…  Best, because she was the best of friends.  She never forgot or ignored an event and seemed to know just when to call Mom or send a note.  They shared their joys and their sad times and were always there to support the other, even if only by phone or mail.   Mother worried about her until she or Joe could send re-assurances, and I had several calls from Virginia wanting to check on Mom.   Even after all the years and miles, they stayed in each other's hearts and minds like they were kids back in Earle, Arkansas.
Mom and Virginia met in the fourth grade at the start of the Depression.  Mom was a sickly kid, embarrassed by her poverty and loss of “station,” upset at moving from the City to rural Earle, lonely, disillusioned that farm animals that couldn't actually talk, and in need of a good friend.  Both were poor, but Mom had land and Virginia had an indoor toilet so their lives balanced out.  She found Virginia to be a truly kindred spirit and any talk of her youth involved what she and Virginia did.  Her intelligence and wit were always an inspiration.
I knew Virginia as the person that, although I never much saw her, seemed to know all about me!  When I graduated high school she sent me a Cross pen set.  I still have it!  She sent cards and gifts at all the big events of my life.  She mattered to me, and made me feel that I mattered to her!   I felt like a real grown up when I made my first visit to Lakewood to visit Virginia and Joe and introduce them to my own daughter.  What a sweet welcome I received!  Virginia knew and loved my mother as no one else in the world did, and Mom felt the same for her.   Virginia was important to us all.
So, I am thankful to have known Virginia and to have heard the stories of her youth, read the Christmas cards and letters through the years, and had the visits I got with this remarkably loveable woman.  I pray now for eternal peace for Virginia, and love and comfort for you all, and send the same from Hugo and Margaret.

Hap and I will always remember Virginia's wonderful capacity for love and kindness.  She will be missed by all who knew her.  Her smile has helped many through rough patches and I know she will continue to pray for all of us.  Love and Blessings to the Family, Kathy &Hap
