John Harold Dickson

C’est avec une très grande tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès du Dr John Harold Dickson. Né le 17 décembre 1927 à Ottawa, fils de Gertrude Marion Scott et John Harold Dickson, il est décédé paisiblement entouré de sa famille au Manoir Trinité de Longueuil le 29 avril 2019, à l’âge de 91 ans. Il a passé sa jeunesse à Montréal et Cornwall et était musicien les fins de semaine dans des orchestres de danse typiques des années 1940-1950. Après avoir obtenu un doctorat en sciences de l’Université Laval en­­­ 1958, il a eu une carrière de chimiste chercheur de 49 ans, ayant tour à tour travaillé auprès du Centre de recherche CARDE-Valcartier, de la raffinerie Shell Canada de Montréal, du Centre de recherche pétrolifère Shell d’Oakville, Ontario, du ministère des Transports de l’Ontario et finalement, à titre de consultant auprès du Canada Counsel for Independent Laboratories (CCIL). Il était aussi un ancien commodore du Burlington Sailing and Boating Club (BSBC) et ancien président du Club Alouette Laval de Burlington, Ontario.

Il est prédécédé par son épouse, Monique Gamache et laisse dans le deuil son fils John (Mildred Dorismond), sa fille Kathleen (Dr John Bergeron), ses petits-enfants Julien, Xavier et Sébastien, sa sœur Phyllis, sa belle-sœur Me Michèle Gamache, ses beaux-petits-enfants Dre Natasha Bergeron (Éric Brissette) et Fabien Bergeron (Karine Lemire), ses neveux Jean-François Allard (Caroline Masson), Denis et Pierre Gamache, ainsi que ses petites-nièces Béatrice Allard et Jennifer Gamache et ses petits-neveux Ulysse Allard et Alexandre Gamache. Il est prédécédé par sa soeur Bernice, sa belle-sœur Jacqueline Gamache (Jacques Allard), son beau-frère Dr André Gamache (France Rivest) et son neveu Pierre Allard (Annie Roy).

La famille accueillera parents et amis vendredi le 24 mai 2019, de 19 h à 22 h et samedi le 25 mai 2019, de 9 h à 10 h 30 au Salon funéraire La Maison Darche, 505, boul. Curé-Poirier Ouest, Longueuil, QC, J4J 2H5.

Les funérailles auront lieu samedi le 25 mai 2019 à 11h à la Cathédrale Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue, 55, rue Sainte-Elizabeth, Longueuil, QC, J4H 1J3. Une réception suivra à la Maison Darche de 12h15 à 14h00.

En présence de la famille proche, la mise en terre aura lieu lundi le 27 mai 2019 à 11h, au Cimetière Saint-Charles à Québec, QC. L’entrée du cimetière est située en face du 1105, rue Saint-Vallier Ouest, Québec, QC, G1N 1G9.

Au lieu de fleurs, des dons à la Société canadienne du cancer seraient appréciés.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John Harold Dickson. Born December 17, 1927 to Gertrude Marion Scott and John Harold Dickson in Ottawa, he died peacefully surrounded by his family at the Manoir Trinité in Longueuil on April 29, 2019, at the age of 91. He lived his formative years in Montreal and Cornwall and was a talented musician playing in weekend dance bands of the 1940-1950’s. After obtaining a doctorate in science from the Université Laval in 1958, he continued his 49 year career as a research chemist working at the Canadian Armament Research and Development Establishment (CARDE) in Valcartier, the Shell Canada Refinery in Montreal, the Shell Oil Research Center in Oakville, Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, and finally as a devoted consultant for the Canada Counsel for Independent Laboratories (CCIL). He was also a former commodore of the Burlington Sailing and Boating Club (BSBC) and past president of the Club Alouette Laval de Burlington, Ontario.

He is predeceased by his wife, Monique Gamache, and is survived by his son John (Mildred Dorismond), his daughter Kathleen (Dr. John Bergeron), his grandchildren Julien, Xavier and Sébastien, his sister Phyllis, his sister-in-law Me Michèle Gamache, his step-grandchildren Dr. Natasha Bergeron (Éric Brissette) and Fabien Bergeron (Karine Lemire), his nephews Jean-François Allard (Caroline Masson), Denis and Pierre Gamache, and his grand-nieces Béatrice Allard and Jennifer Gamache and his grand-nephews Ulysse Allard and Alexandre Gamache. He is also predeceased by his sister Bernice, his sister-in-law Jacqueline Gamache (Jacques Allard), his brother-in-law Dr. André Gamache (France Rivest) and his nephew Pierre Allard (Annie Roy).

The family will welcome relatives and friends on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 7 pm to 10 pm and Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 9 am to 10:30 am at La Maison Darche Funeral Home, 505 boul. Curé-Poirier Ouest, Longueuil, QC, J4J 2H5.

Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11 am at the Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue Cathedral, 55 rue Sainte-Elizabeth, Longueuil, QC, J4H 1J3 with a reception at La Maison Darche from 12:15 pm to 2:00 pm.

In the presence of the immediate family, the burial will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 11am at the Cimetière Saint-Charles in Québec, QC. The cemetery entrance is located facing 1105 rue Saint-Vallier Ouest, Québec, QC, G1N 1G9.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
