A 1960 graduate of Center High School, Anita married the love of her life, Jimmy Fleming, on March 18, 1961. Together they shared 65 wonderful years and were blessed with three sons.
Anita's life reflected kindness, service, and dedication to others. She worked for many years in the cafeteria at Spring Hill ISD, where she later served as cafeteria manager before retirement. Beyond her daily work, she managed the concession stands for the swimming pool and numerous school sporting events. She also generously volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Sunday School teacher, touching countless young lives with her warmth and guidance. In her later years, she continued nurturing children through her work at Pine Tree Church of Christ Mother's Day Out.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother brought immense happiness to her life. She will long be remembered for her loving heart, gentle spirit, and the positive influence she had both within her family and throughout her community.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Homa and Lillian Askew, and brother, Glenn Askew. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy Fleming; sons and daughter-in-law David and Amy Fleming, Micheal Fleming, and Mark Fleming, all of Longview; her beloved grandchildren Jared Fleming (Katie) of Garland, Keri Mosley (Scott) of Diana, Austin Fleming of Van, and Brooke McCalip (Sam) of Appleby; and great-grandchildren Daxton, Finley, and Florence Fleming; MaKennah, Brentley, and Kinley Henderson; and River McCalip. She is also survived by brothers Leon Askew (Janice) and Larry Askew (Vickie); sister-in-law Debbie Askew; several nieces and nephews; and dear family friends Teresa and Dessie Meadows.
In addition to her family devotion, Anita took great pride in her work as an Election Clerk, faithfully serving her community.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Comfort Keepers caregivers Carla, Aletha, and Eva; Premiere Home Health staff Ann, Kayla, Whitney, and Miguel; and the compassionate teams at Pine Tree Lodge Nursing Center, Whispering Pines Lodge, and Heart to Heart Hospice. Your care and kindness brought comfort and peace in Anita's final days, and her loved ones are deeply grateful.
Her sweet and loving presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at Lakeview Funeral Home on Thursday, April 9th from 6:00–8:00 pm. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, April 10th at 1:00 pm at Pine Tree Church of Christ. Following the service Anita will be laid to rest at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
