Billy “Poppy” Minor, Jr, 63, of Longview passed away November 5, 2015 in Longview. He was born January 12, 1952 in Rockwall, TX to Billy Clyde Minor, Sr. and Francis Claudelle Wilkerson Minor. Billy graduated from Rockwall High School, and worked for Big Lakes Utilities in Kilgore for almost 20 years as a wastewater operator. Billy, known as “Poppy” to those who loved him loved to fix things. He would spend his evenings and even into the night working on anything that was broken from flashlights to clocks to computers. Anything that a friend or family member would bring to him, whether it needed it or not would get fixed by his special touch, and when he was not working on his projects, he enjoyed his Harley Davidson, fishing, guns, knives, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Kitty Minor of Longview; mother: Claudelle “MaMaw” Minor of Longview; Son: Billy Don Minor and his wife Carolyn of McKinney; son: John Minor and his wife Kelie of Longview; daughter: Laci Minor of Hallsville; stepdaughters: Brandy Wooley and her husband Daniel of Longview and Constance Hudson and her significant other Denise Griffith of Hallsville; stepson: Heath Sanders and his wife Whitney of Longview; 16 grandchildren; brothers: David Minor and his wife Patti of Gladewater, Mark Minor and his wife Charlotte of Longview, and Hal Hartman and his wife Sheila of Neveda, TX; sister: Leanne Minor of Longview as well as a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his father, and his grandparents: Claude and Frances Wilkerson of Rockwall.
A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 2105 E Loop 281, Longview, TX, with Bro. Charles Hunt officiating.
