Charles “Fred”Constantine completed his earthly journey on June 12, 2025 after a short but brave battle with cancer. Fred was born in Moorestown, New Jersey on May 18th,1935, and had just recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He met the love of his life Jeannette (Jean) Davis during their junior year of High School, and were married shortly after graduating in 1953. Fred joined the National Guard shortly after graduation and went on to serve a total of 14 years in the Guard. In 1967 Fred joined his brother-in-law in his travel business. This allowed Fred and family to travel the world, including 3 years in both Germany and Spain. He retired from the travel business in 1995, and decided to use his talents to start a handyman business in Rockville, Maryland.
Fred and Jean made the decision to move to Longview, Texas in 1999 in order to be closer to family. Fred resumed his handyman business in Longview, eventually putting his skills to work at Christian Heritage School, where he served as the Maintenance Man. This also conveniently allowed him to be able to keep an eye on his granddaughters who attended the school. One of Fred’s biggest thrills over the years was to be greeted by CHS students and their parents out in the community - even after he retired from that job.
Fred truly had a servant’s heart. This was always evident in his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, as well as his longstanding service to the Longview community. Fred and Jean became involved with Longview Community Ministries in 2000, and Fred continued his involvement with this organization up until his recent illness. He was also an active member of St. Anthony’s Church in Longview, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 22 years, holding numerous positions over the years.
Anyone who knew Fred will tell you that he never met a stranger. It was difficult to walk away from a conversation with him without feeling better about the world. Fred was preceded in death by Jean, his wife of 54 years and eldest son Charles Jr. He is survived by his son Gene and his wife Lisa, as well as his 5 grandchildren and 1 Great Granddaughter.
A Memorial Mass will be healed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Longview at 5pm on Friday June 20, 2025.
