

Douglas Donald Schuette, 59, of Longview, Texas passed away on December 1, 2013 at a local nursing center. He was born on June 27, 1954 in Lansing, Michigan to Albert and Clara Elaine Schuette. He was raised and graduated from high school in Indianapolis, and after graduating joined the Air Force and was stationed in the Philippines. After his service in the Air Force, he moved to Longview and attended LeTourneau College and later graduated from the University of Texas in Tyler. While attending college, Doug worked as a police officer in Gladewater and after graduating, as an English teacher at Gladewater High School for 20 years, until his illness in 2004.
Doug is preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Rachel. He is survived by Kim Schuette; his daughter: Jennifer Weinland and her husband Rick; son: Josh Schuette and his wife Rachel; ten grandchildren: Jonah, Isaac, Jacob, Hazel and Penny Schuette; Estelle, Fiona, Clara, Otto, and Finn Weinland. Until his illness, Doug enjoyed many hobbies, which included skydiving, Taekwondo, motorcycles, and physical fitness.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Highland Pines Nursing Home for their dedicated and loving care they provided to Doug during his illness.
Services for Doug will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Bro. John Wallingford officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 also at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church Missions Program, 4656 Page Road, Longview, TX 75605.
