

Mr. Gary O’Neal Stanley, 76, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away Tuesday January 7, 2025. Mr. Stanley was born on August 1, 1948, in Overton, Texas to Noel O’Neal and Meldie Stanley. He was a long-time resident of Longview, Texas and graduated from Pine Tree High School in 1966, where he played football for the Pirates and made many friends.
After graduating, Gary joined the Army National Guard out of Longview in 1968, completed his basic training at Fort Dix in New Jersey and served until 1974. He graduated in 1972 from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelor of Science in Broadfield Social Studies. He had intended to be a teacher until he completed student teaching and decided that it was not for him.
He spent much of his life being an entrepreneur and owning several businesses over his lifetime, such as the Siesta Motel, Superior Home Insulation in Longview, GOSA Oil and a roofing business out of Albany.
He married Cathryn Peek in 1970, was married for 16 years, and together had two children who he leaves behind, Sundee Rossi and husband Johnny of Amarillo, and Garrett Stanley and wife Carly of Bryant, Arkansas. He is also survived by a brother, Kirk Stanley and wife Rhonda of Waxahachie; four grandchildren, Scarlett and Jett Rossi of Amarillo, and Amelia and Garrison Stanley of Bryant, Arkansas; and a host of other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kevin Stanley, formerly of Rowlett.
Gary’s faith was strong in the Lord and his loved ones will remember him for his compassionate nature, giving spirit, and endearing sense of humor; his passing will be mourned deeply by those that loved him.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hilary Klamm, his Caregiver with Accentcare, who was a beloved friend to Gary and took great care of him for the last three years of his life.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Lakeview Funeral Home, 5000 West Harrison Road, Longview, TX 75604.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army.
