

James T. Ogg of Longview, TX went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2021. He was born in Navasota, TX on June 30, 1916 to W.H. and Hettie Ogg. A private Life Celebration was held at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr.Ogg received his Bachelor’s degree in Education and Mathematics from Stephen F. Austin, and his Masters at Texas A&M where he continued working toward his Doctorate and later taught in the Army Specialized Training Program during WW2. Afterwards, he headed the Department of Mathematics at Polytechnic Institute of Puerto Rico. Eventually he returned to East Texas and served as Superintendent of Pine Tree Schools where under his guidance they became an Independent School District. He also served as Superintendent of Gladewater and Brownsville School Districts. James T. Ogg was a prominent school and civic leader. He held positions as The Texas Director to the National Education Association, President of the two school districts of Texas State Teachers District Associations, President of Texas Association of School Administration, served on the Board of Directors at the Valley Zoological Society, The State Textbook Committee and The Juvenile Review Board. He was also a Mason and Shriner for over 60 years.
Although he had no children of his own, he often referred to his students as “his kids” and took seriously his responsibilities to them as an educator and a Christian man whose faith guided his life.
James was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, W.L.Ogg and Dr. T.W. Ogg.
He is survived by his wife Barbara K “ Katie”.
