Mary Jane Boyer was born February 3, 1951 in Newark Ohio, to Shelton and Mildred Burchard. She had five sisters and three brothers, six of which still reside in Ohio. In 1969, she met her husband of 50 years, marrying him in 1970. In 1971, she welcomed her first of five children. The couple gathered their belongings and their three little ones, moving to Texas in 1979. Mary had her final two children at home, with the baby of the family coming in 1982. The family suffered the loss of the eldest of Mary’s five children due to Cystic Fibrosis. Although the loss was devastating, she found the strength to carry on, opting to begin her career as a housekeeper and dedicate her life to being a mother to all.
Mary is survived by her husband, John W Boyer; her four children, Becky Wilburn-Brown and her husband Len, Daniel Boyer and his wife Kristen, Benjamin Boyer, and Sarah Bell and her husband Jerry; 7 grandchildren, Matt, Megan, Mary, Eric, Lindsay, Christin, and Mary Jane; and 10 great-grandchildren. She also has six siblings and numerous other family members, both blood and adopted, across the nation.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, friend, and Christian. She always had a smile on her face and rarely, if ever, left a conversation without giving at least five or six hugs. Her selflessness was unmatched by any other, always tending to the needs of her spouse, children, and the many other people she called family, before thinking of herself. Mary’s beautiful smile, rosy disposition, and the warmest of hugs will be missed by all who were blessed to have her in their lives.
Mary lost her battle with metastatic gallbladder cancer on her 50th wedding anniversary, July 28th. On her last days, she smiled and comforted her loved ones, saying, “God answered my prayers. He gave me time with my kids, grandkids, grand furbabies, and great grandbabies.” We know her light will shine on in each of our hearts and her new role as one of God’s angels.
