

after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Mrs. McWherter was born May 3, 1935, in St George, Utah, one of nine children. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Clifton L. McWherter; four children, David L. McWherter (Lynn) of Beaumont, Texas, Sandra G. Love (Walt) of Longview, Texas, Mark D. McWherter (Kay) of McGregor, Texas, and Scott A. McWherter (Barbara) of Hardwick, Vermont, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Sibling survivors include two brothers, Ted and George Prince and wives, and one sister, Beverly Succo and husband Frank, deceased. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Prince, and five of her siblings, Lund, Helen, Gale, Jay, and Dorene.
Mrs. McWherter, the daughter of a sheep rancher in Utah, graduated valedictorian of her high school class from Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada in 1953. She met a young, debonair US Air Force fighter interceptor pilot and soon married 1st Lt. Clifton McWherter on May 8, 1953 in Boulder City, Nevada. She accompanied him on various assignments with the Air Force which included Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, Hamilton Air Force Base in California, Perrin Air Force Base in Texas, and Yuma Air Force Base in Yuma, Arizona. Eventually, Mrs. McWherter and her husband settled in Longview in 1956 and, except for a 2 ½ year transfer to Corpus Christi, Texas, she resided in Longview ever since. Mrs. McWherter was a member of the Pine Tree Church of Christ in Longview. She worked for the Texas Public School system and retired from Pine Tree ISD after 22 years of service.
Visitation will be at Lakeview Funeral Home, 5000 W. Harrison Rd. in Longview, Texas from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, May 31. Funeral services will be at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 1, at 1:00 pm with Richie Hamm officiating. A private family burial will follow at Lakeview.
