Ocilla Ruth McCubbin

Ocilla Rogers McCubbin, 89, died Saturday, July 30, 2011. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with family and friends will be at 1 p.m., prior to the services. Mrs. McCubbin was born March 3, 1922, in Mount Pleasant, to John and Verna Rogers. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John A. McCubbin; a son, Timothy McCubbin; a daughter, Johnnie McCubbin; a brother, Pyron Rogers; and sisters, Gwendolyn Williams and Sylvia Julian. Among her greatest joys in life were her family, her friends, church and the ladies from Bible study. Her talent for creating beautiful works of art was only superseded by her joy in giving them away. Her home was always open to family, friends and neighbors, and one could not leave without knowing they had truly been in the presence of love. Surviving family members include her much beloved granddaughter, Tracy Hays; great-grandchildren, Meagan and Timothy Mason Hays; one surviving sister, Maxine Baldwin of Dallas; sister-in-law, Mary McCormick of Gladewater; and a host of adoring nieces, nephews and cousins. “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many woman do noble things, but you surpass them all.’” — Proverbs 31:28-29.
