Jose Castro, known as “Pino” and “The Magic Man,” was born on New Year's Eve of 1962. Pino entered this world ready to party and that he did. On August 13th, 2025, Pino passed away peacefully listening to his “oldies but goodies” music,” surrounded by his family.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Jose was the beloved son of Manuel Castro Sr. and Mary Esther Dineyazie. Jose is survived by his devoted siblings: Christina Castro, Manuel Castro Jr., and Marcelino Castro. He was preceded in death by his brother Andres Castro, and his parents, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
Pino leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering pride in his roots and family. For more than two decades, Pino brought warmth, charisma, and a welcoming spirit to the iconic Greek Theatre, where he worked and formed lasting bonds. To Pino, his co-workers were more than just colleagues—they were his second family. His familiar greeting, "Welcome to the Greeeeeekkkkkkk," echoed his vibrant personality and deep sense of belonging.
As a Chicano and proud member of the Navajo Nation, Pino carried his heritage close to his heart and lived with a strong sense of identity and cultural pride. On his Navajo side, he was Hónágháahnii, the One Who Walks Around Clan, born for Naakai Dine’é, Mexican people. He adored his family, holding a particularly special bond with his sister Christina. Together, they cared for their father, Manuel, with unwavering love and dedication.
Known for his sharp style, magnetic presence, and infectious energy, Pino was truly the life of every gathering. He had a deep love for singing and dancing, always dressed to impress, and brought joy wherever he went.
Pino was proud to have been sober for the last eight years of his life, embracing each moment with clarity, joy, and gratitude. His journey of sobriety became a source of inspiration to many, showing that fulfillment and happiness came from within.
He leaves behind not only his siblings, but also many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family who will forever cherish his memory. His laughter, kindness, and vibrant soul will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Pino. Your light continues to shine in the hearts of those you touched.
