August 27, 1931 – March 26, 2025
Mary Young Davis passed away peacefully in her home in Corona del Mar, California, on March 26 at the age of 93, following a stroke. Her daughter Susan was by her side. She was born in Houston, Texas in 1931 to Alice Hendrix and Horace Omega Young.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Known by her friends as “a lovely woman who was smart, charming and fun to be around with an easy laugh”, Mary lived life to the fullest. She was always gracious, happy and ready to enjoy another grand adventure, as she did on her many travels with family and friends over the years.
Mary moved with her mother moved to California while in elementary school. They lived in Whittier and Westwood; ultimately settling in Long Beach where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. During spring breaks from school, she and her family and friends from school would spend vacation time on Balboa Island in Newport Beach. She remembered being a live model with friends in a shop window at a clothing store on Marine Avenue.
After high school graduation, she attended Stanford University majoring in Southeast Asian History, was on the Rally Committee, and became a pom-pom girl. While attending Stanford, Mary met her future husband Robert H. (Bob) Lintz, on a blind date. They married in Long Beach in 1952. After their marriage, she returned to Stanford to finish her coursework and graduated in 1953 with her B.A. degree. She remained a loyal Stanford alumnus. Over the years, she loved returning to campus and participating in alumni events including rallies and football games.
She and her husband Bob raised their two children first in Long Beach with summers spent in Lake Arrowhead with lots of boating and water skiing with friends and relatives who came to visit. She loved entertaining and was always a welcoming hostess. In 1972 they moved to Laguna Beach when Bob decided he wanted to have a larger swimming pool for their two children: the Pacific Ocean!
In 1978, Mary married Stuart Davis and moved to Beverly Hills where she lived for the next 45 years. She became actively involved in various charitable organizations whereby she generously gave her time and talent.
She was most active over the years with Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS). She had been an active member since 1979 and served in many capacities, including President of the Los Angeles Founder Chapter as well as President of the National Organization. Over the years she also served as a liaison to chapters across California and the country and became an Honorary Director. She was active in other organizations as well, including the Diadames with its support of the Mirman School for Gifted Children in Los Angeles; Les Aimes, an organization devoted to supporting the Children’s Institute in Los Angeles and the League for Children with its support of the Children’s Bureau in Los Angeles. She served with heart, sincerity and generosity in all of she did.
She was also involved with The Blue Ribbon, with its support of the arts and theatre at the Los Angeles Music Center. If that wasn’t enough, she also was a dedicated supporter of St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica and was a recognized as a lifetime trustee of St. John’s Hospital Foundation for her support.
With all of her philanthropic activities, Mary loved to be active and played tennis and became an avid golfer as a member of the Los Angeles Country Club. At LACC she joined the women’s golf team and served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary. She also became a member of Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage in 1980 where she also had a home and enjoyed team golf there as well. She loved it all! She had so much positive energy and loved to stay active and connected with friends and family.
After some health setbacks, Mary returned to Corona Del Mar in Newport Beach in 2022 to be closer to her family. She is survived by her son James Richard Lintz; daughter, Susan Lintz Williams; two grandsons Peter, and Morgan and his wife, Briana; two great grandchildren Kaden and Maven; her late husband’s grandchildren, Michele Ridgeway and Lance Alarcon; great-grandson Michael Sween, and her brother H. Baker Young of Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations made in her name to the ARCS Foundation, Inc., Los Angeles Chapter, 24520 Hawthorne Blvd., Suite 113, Torrance CA 90505-6853. She will be inurned at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park alongside her late husband Stuart Davis.
