Gregory Randall Sichi was born on September 21,1948 in Santa Monica, CA. On April 2, 2024, Greg passed away peacefully, in his sleep, at Casa de Vida, a residential care facility for adults with disabilities, in San Luis Obispo, CA. The Sichi family is very thankful to the staff of Casa de Vida for the loving and expert care they gave our dear brother, Greg since August, 2019.
Greg was the second child of Gordon and Jackalyn Sichi. In 1952, Gordon and Jackie moved their young family to Woodland Hills, CA. Through the years, their family grew to seven happy and blessed children.
Greg faced challenges throughout his life. He was born with mild Cerebral Palsy. Greg attended St. Mel’s Catholic School in Woodland Hills, CA, then went on to Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, CA. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1966. He attended CSUN in Northridge, CA. Greg did not obtain a degree, but successfully completed various classes at CSUN. School was difficult for Greg. To his credit, he always tried his best in all areas of his life. Greg had a strong work ethic. In his teens, Greg had jobs working at the Motion Picture Hospital and Denny’s Restaurant in Woodland Hills, CA.
In his twenties, Greg enjoyed travelling, and especially liked visiting old friends and extended family in California and Oregon. Eventually, his love of the Northwest took him to the state of Washington. Greg lived in Blaine, WA, then Bellingham, WA for many years, starting in the 1970’s until 2012. Greg would, occasionally, return to Woodland Hills to visit his parents, Gordon and Jackie, at their home. Greg’s favorite all-time job was selling flowers. He did this at freeway offramps in Woodland Hills, and, later, in various cities in Washington.
In 2012, Greg returned to California to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family. As Greg aged, he needed more assistance from his family, so he remained in California for the rest of his life. Two outstanding qualities of Greg’s were, first, how much effort he put into each of his endeavors, such as school or jobs. Second, Greg had a great love of family; he had everyone’s birthdays memorized and enjoyed sending birthday cards or greetings to his family. Greg also loved road trips and visiting family. Those two passions were combined in September 2022. Greg delighted in a one-day road trip to Camarillo, CA to attend the beautiful wedding of Ashley Rosenberg and Jesse Arjasbi!
Greg was pre-deceased by his parents, Gordon and Jackie, and his younger brother, Mark Sichi. He leaves behind 5 loving siblings, and their spouses: Gordon (Suzie), Gaye Donovan, Mike, Mitch (Kathy), and Melanie (Mitch Rosenberg). Greg also dearly loved his 17 nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children.
Since love always endures, our family’s love for our dear brother and Uncle Greg will continue. Greg, and precious memories of him, will remain in our prayers and hearts forever…
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Greg on Friday, May 31st, 1:00 PM at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Address: 221 Daly Av, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405.
