He was born December 10th, 1958, in Guatemala City, Guatemala to the late Rafael and Thelma Godoy.
Carlos traveled to the United States in 1979 and later became a US citizen in 1989. He came seeking employment opportunities, and in doing so, he achieved the American dream.
Combining his athleticism and stature, he quickly found himself at a farm in Prospect, Ky learning how to ride horses. His career as a jockey spanned over a decade and took him to several racetracks from New Jersey to Florida. Of course, his favorite racetrack was Churchill Downs.
In doing what he loved, he found his one true love. On July 17, 1983, he married his wife of 38 years, Karen Godoy. They shared a joint love for horses, traveling, family, and God. Carlos and Karen are members of Okolona Christian Church.
Carlos was a dedicated family man. He provided endlessly for his family, working two jobs at United Parcel Service and Kentucky Trailer for the last 28 years to support them. God blessed Carlos and Karen with a full house - Ana Recktenwald (Greg), Anthony Godoy (Christy), Amy Brent (Sam), Andrew Godoy, Adrienne Godoy, and a set of twins that preceded him in death. He has eight grandchildren - Haley, Ava, Grant, Eli, Aiden, Clara, Jackson, and Malakai; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He is also survived by his beloved siblings Pedro Godoy (Rosie) and Roxana Godoy de Toledo (Jorge).
A visitation for Carlos will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road. Visitation will resume on Monday morning from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home, with a funeral service in Carlos’s honor to begin at 12:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
