He was a retired employee of Louisville Gas and Electric, and an Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, the former Martha Kline; a daughter, Michele Goodman (Gary); sons, Jerry and Robert Smith; a sister, Dena Avery; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Kristine and Ryan Goodman (Allison); and three great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate Mr. Smith's life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd. Entombment with military honors will be held in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday. Memorial gifts may be made to, KY Humane Society.
