He was born in Springfield, Tennessee on August 5, 1935 to the late Sidney and Bertha Whalin Rice. He retired from General Electric after 42 years.
Coach Rice, as lovingly known by many, dedicated 50 years of his life to generations of young boys and girls coaching football, basketball, baseball and softball at Lyndon Recreation. This was his true passion, impacting many young lives and most importantly, teaching many life lessons.
Left to cherish David's memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Janis; children, Sheila Vierling (Tom), Barry, Bev Reese (Keith); brother, Jack Rice (Alda); grandchildren, Sara, Laura, Karla, Brianna, Mollie, Zach; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in passing by sisters, Ramona Strickland and June McAnally.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Monday, March 12, at 11 AM at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 to 6 PM at the funeral home.
