

Dennis Bryan Nash, Sr. passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on September 30. Dennis was born on March 12th , 1936, to his parents, William Emmett and Mary Frances (Bryan). He was one of 11 children. He is survived by his sibling, Robert Nash. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sr. Bernadine Nash OSU, Marie Tivnan and Peggy Clark and brothers, Emmett, Anthony, Patrick, Donald Louis, James Michael and Charles Timothy. Denny was a devoted husband to his wife of 65 years, Madlyn (Lee) and a loving father to his children, Dennis (Toni), Billy, Denise Rueff (Mike), David (Patti) and Patrick. His grandchildren Dennis, Will, Michael, Louis, Dane, Andrew, Kate, Ben and Anna Marie were a huge part of his life. Denny and Madlyn were blessed by a life full of aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends too many to list.
A graduate of Flaget High School, Denny played baseball at the University of Louisville, holding many slots in their record book and finishing his teaching degree class of 1958. He served six years in the US Army and Reserves. Later he attained a Masters at Spalding University. Coach Nash began his career at Flaget as an assistant to Paulie Miller. In 1962, he became the head football coach at Bishop David High School. Over the next 20 years, he would become the winningest coach in the school’s history. His 1973 team would finish the regular season undefeated and Denny was named the Coach of the Year in Jefferson County.
Following his teaching and coaching career, Denny worked for 20 years for the Jefferson County Clerk.
More important than the many wins, Denny was a role model for young men. He treated all his players with dignity and respect and always protected their well-being above all. He successfully aided many players in pursuit of college scholarships. In 2023, Coach Nash was elected to the Catholic Sports Hall of Fame. He was a man of integrity who touched the lives of many.
A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with entombment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 4pm-8pm Friday, October 10, 2025 at Evergreen Funeral Home.
