

Donald McGrath Sr. was born on April 24, 1937, in Louisville, KY, and lived a life full of love, kindness, and strength. Throughout the years, he was known not only for his unwavering resilience in the face of heart failure but also for his infectious sense of humor. Don had an uncanny ability to make others laugh, often laughing at his own jokes before anyone else could. His quick wit, playful spirit, and ability to find humor in the everyday made him a joy to be around and brightened the lives of those lucky enough to know him.
Don retired from Fischer Packing Company in 1999 after 33 years of service. He then went on to work at Sam’s Club where he enjoyed working alongside his son (Don Jr.). He was a hard worker who achieved Associate of the Year at the age of 76 and strived for perfect attendance. He was dedicated to providing for his family and committed to every task he undertook with determination and pride.
Don was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Beverly “Bev” McGrath; mother, Viola Brenner McGrath; father, Fred McGrath Sr.; and brothers Kavin McGrath and Fred “Junie” McGrath Jr.
He is survived by his three sons, Ronnie McGrath; Danny McGrath (Lori); and Donald McGrath Jr. (Cheryl); brother, Richard McGrath; and sister, Patricia Robison. A devoted grandfather, “Papaw” is survived by six grandchildren, Craig; Brandon; Brittany; Alex; Ronald; and Dylan; twelve great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He also has four stepchildren, Charles Riebel (Susan); Terry Riebel (Julie); George Riebel (Jennifer); and Cindy Barnett (David); nine step-grandchildren, Codey; Shane; Bella; Joel; Camille; Wynston; Corinne; Ryan; and Kyle; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on February 5, 2025, from 4 pm to 8 pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY. The funeral service will be held on February 6, 2025, at noon. Don will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Donald McGrath Sr. will be deeply missed but always remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
