Dorothy Alice Rice

Dorothy was a long serving employee and union leader at Arland’s Department Store in Shively, KY and also served as President of the Humana Southwest Seniors Association. She had the privilege of living her later years at Friendship Health & Rehabilitation in Pewee Valley, KY surrounded by many wonderful and cherished friends and caring and supportive staff.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband James Bailey Rice, her sons, Jimmie Rice, Robert E. “Bobby” Rice, Gary R. “Rico” Rice and grandson, John W. Rice. She is survived by her brother Claude B. Denny, son, Donald L. Rice (Lynn), daughter, Jacqueline Sue “Susie” Buckner (Mike), daughters-in-law, Faye Pullen Rice and Mildred L. Rice. Grandchildren, Kimberly Rice, Julie Rice Wolff (Brian), Brian Rice, Michael Rice (Tracy), Richard Rice (Tabitha), Kelly Ellis (William), Craig Davis (Angie), Stacey Lurie (Steve), Michelle Lewis, Amanda Bourland, twenty two (22) great grandchildren and five (5) great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Rice’s family wishes to thank the staff and administration of Friendship Health & Rehabilitation for the exceptional care given to Dorothy while a resident at the facility. They also wish to thank the staff at Norton Brownsboro Hospital who cared for Dorothy and for the kindness and compassion bestowed upon her family during such a difficult time.

A funeral service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 4-8pm on Friday, October 2, 2015 and after 10am the day of the funeral.
