Schmitt, Edward L., 73, entered into eternal glory on Wednesday, June 28. He was born on July 25, 1943 to the late Clarence and Lillian (Scherer) Schmitt. He graduated from Dupont Manual High School in 1962 and went on to work as an industrial millwright for Corhart Refractories for 39 years. Edward was a member of Larchmont Church of God and Masonic Lodge 951. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Barbara Schmitt; children, Angela Murphy (David), Laura Smith (Danny), Edward Todd Schmitt (Michelle); step-children, Beth Jackson (Aubrey), Steve Purdon (Jody), Andrew Purdon (Heike), Paula Keller (Mike); a sister Diana Sims (Larry); 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends whose lives he deeply touched.
A service to celebrate Edward’s life will be on Monday, July 3, at noon in the Southern Chapel of Arch L. Heady, 3601 Taylor Blvd, and burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. The family will accept visitors on Sunday from 1-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancery Society in Edward’s honor.
