Frank Douglas “Doug” Wheatley, 78, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Doug was a wonderful husband, father, and papaw. He “married up” (his words) in 1964 and celebrated 55 years of marriage in August. During that time, he served the former Louisville Division of Police for 28 years as a patrol officer in the 3rd, 4th and 5th districts as well as a detective. He retired in 1991 and was retired as long as he served. In his retirement he loved being around his family and hanging out at his favorite place on the beach.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Frank Martin Bruck and Marquetta Hess Jones.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Prince Wheatley; children, Mike (Marilinda) Wheatley, Stephanie Wheatley Meador; grandchildren, Michael (Lauren), Brianna,Philip and Maylee Wheatley, Kyle and Jacob Meador; great grandchildren, Cody and Chloe Wheatley and another little one on the way, Brantlee Deaton, and Laken Meador; sisters Marquetta George, Jean Barnes and Carolyn Frisco.
Some cherished memories are…
MIKE: Going to Cincinnati Reds games at Riverfront Stadium and this quote “you gotta stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything”.
MARILINDA: I loved his stories and Dad, now that you’re “outa here”, I’ll go get our White Castles.
STEPHANIE: Dad took us to Kings Island and he wasn’t fond of theme parks..but he rode the Scooby Doo ride with me. He would take me along whenhe worked the bingos at the Catholic Churches.
MICHAEL: There were many special moments with Papaw. The one on one conversations we have had will continue to play in my mind over and over. He will forever be in my heart giving me the love, encouragement and sarcasm that he always gave.
BRIANNA: When he brought out his hilarious alter ego, Rudalfo, we also had special one on one conversations that I will always cherish. He gave me the best advice and I felt like I could ask him anything. He also had quick-witted comebacks.
KYLE: When I was little papaw would pretend that he was painting my face ‘til I would fall asleep and then carry me to bed. When I would have to take medicine he would say rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time and repeat “mind over matter”.
JACOB: A funny memory that I remember was when he got stuck in the chair one time and it was pulling his pants down every time he was trying toget up out of it..lol Going to the gun range and shooting his guns and all of his police stories he would tell.
PHILIP: Talking to Papaw about guns every time I went there and the encouragement he gave me in my playing the bass.
MAYLEE: I used to tell him that I was stealing his meatballs when I ate SpaghettiO’s and Meatballs
The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
