He was born in Lexington, Kentucky on August 2, 1939 to the late Fred and Mazie Smith. Fred was an Army veteran. He was a beloved son, father and brother. He was blessed with five brothers and a sister along with five daughters and four sons. Fred had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved dearly. Fred’s greatest accomplishment was being an amazing and loving father to his children. He was known for his unconditional supporting love, selfless acts and words of advice that you needed to hear but might not have wanted. There was never a time when he was not there for his family and friends. He never complained about anything even in his toughest of times. He believed everyone deserved a second chance. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading Louie Lamar books, watching old western movies and most of all cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats. Wednesdays were the days he looked forward to the most because of uninterrupted family time and dinners. One of his favorite sayings was “You have to take time to stop and smell the roses”. In Fred’s early years he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Fred and Mazie Smith, brothers Wayne, Robert and Johnny Smith, daughter, Stephanie Starr, grandsons, Tyler Doyle and Berlin Cole IV, brother-in-law, Charles Marshall, and sister-in-law, Brenda Smith.
