She was an extraordinary mother, a dependable sister and a spunky aunt. She was also a lover of antiques, a masterful decorator, a practical joker and a video poker enthusiast.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Morris Branscum, her mother, Marie Branscum, affectionately known as Momma Rea or Granny, and her sister, Nell Webb.
She was also preceded in death by her adoring little dog Baye.
She is survived by her son, Bradley Branscum, and sisters Eloise Godsey and Linda Graven. She was a very sweet and feisty aunt to Tracy Widener, Jo Nell House, Keely Monsour, Carleton Godsey, Rick Godsey and T.J. Graven. She was also a bonus grandmother to Tucker, Claire, Graven and Rider Monsour who nicknamed her Wowie.
Having inherited her mother’s green thumb, Ernie was an avid gardener and flower lover. She was a masterful baker and when it was your birthday, you were spoiled with her divine Italian cream cake – always made with love. She was so generous in time and spirit with family and friends, and welcomed their partners, spouses and children affectionately.
She was fun-loving and could make a party out of a trip to Baskin-Robbins. She was always quick-witted, and any conversation with her includes a hearty laugh. She made an impression and you felt good in her presence. She will be greatly missed.
Helen Ernestine Branscum will be cremated and her ashes buried in her birthplace and her childhood home, Somerset KY. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
