Hubert “Hugh” Campbell passed away on July 11, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on March 25, 1945, in Charleston, West Virginia, Hugh was one of 10 children. He graduated from Sissonville High School in 1964, joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Knox.
In 1966, while in the Army, Hugh met Susan, and they married a year later. For the following 58 years they built a life grounded in faith, love, loyalty, and laughter.
In 1970, Hugh began working for Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he remained until his retirement in 2005.
Hugh was a proud father to three daughters, Tacie (Keith), Tammi (Mike) and Tara (Jason), and a devoted grandfather to five grandsons and one granddaughter (Tyler, Campbell, Colby, Coen, Jack and Kate). In 1991, Hugh and Susan bought a lake house at Rough River Lake, a place that became the heart of countless family gatherings, boat trips, and peaceful mornings by the water. They moved to the lake full-time in 2020.
Hugh was steady, humble, and deeply loyal—a man who valued hard work, family, and beautiful flowers. Hugh didn’t say much, but when he did, it mattered.
Hugh is survived by his sister, Catherine, twin brother, Herbert, his wife, children and grandchildren. His family grieves with hope; certain Hugh’s heavenly garden will be glorious. You won’t want to miss it.
Visitation will be at Arch L. Heady & Son Westport Village 7410 Westport RD. Louisville, KY 40222 on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 with a Celebration Service beginning at 4:00 where friends and family are welcome to share their favorite Hugh memories.
