He was an Army veteran and member of Military Order of the Cootie of the United States, former commander and state commander of VFW 5421 Pleasure Ridge Park , AMVET Post 61, VFW National Home for Children, and former fleet commander of Red Eye Yacht Club.
Mr. Brittain was preceded in rest by his daughter, Brittany Smothers; his sister, Delores Montgomery; and son-in-law, Mike Clontz.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lyndia Brittain; his children, Jeannie Deckard (Bobby), Tabitha Stith, Carl Flester (Shannon), Vickie Cross (Bud), Johneva Micky (Bob), Scherry Clontz and James "Tommy" Brittain, Jr.; son-in-law, Michael Smothers; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be on Wednesday, November 22, at 1pm at the Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, with interment following in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery - Central. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 21, from 3pm until 8pm.
