Janice my MEME misses you so much she has told us many things that you all did at Holy Family, Guardian Angels, Pres and as adults. She said we will all have lots of fun in high school just like you all did.
We will all miss you at the UofL womens games, and the red & white games for the men.

Janice was a special friend I met in 1974. We were in bunco together with a couple of her high school friends, Ann and Zippy. I guess you could say I fall into the group that has said that once you started laughing with Janice, you could not stop.  Her laugh was infectious and contagious.  She so loved her children and Hayden.  Look over us, Janice.

Janice, Friends since freshman year at Pres. 1961! What a good time.  Lots of running around, softball and more softball games.  Bowling ... what great bowlers we were.  Basketball games, teen clubs and oh my, when we got our driver's licenses did we ever travel the streets of Louisville.  And how many "Chinese Fire Drills" did we do every time we were out? Probably every other red light. AND THAT ... 
  ... the "Good & Plenty" story.  Janice told this story MANY times and giggly with that cool laugh she has. You kind of had to be there ... but when we were at Pres in the library with Sr.Catherine Eileen, I dropped my Good & Plenty box on the floor and they went everywhere.  Sr.Catherine Eileen walked up and told the girls to help me pick up my rosary beads.  Now you know why Janice told that story on me.  And then, we graduated.  1965!
Our friendship continued to grow and with weddings, children, and all our friends we continued to have fun.  We were always there for each other. And we still laughed and giggled a lot!
We will miss you, Janice.  You are a great friend.  I will miss our late night calls.
Stephanie and Greg, your mom always wanted the best for you and she loved you so very much.  And Hayden was so very special and now he has his Nana watching over him in a special way.
You both stay close to each other always.
 Friendships are wonderful and ours is one of the best.  I love you and will miss you a lot.

Janice and I were classmates at Holy Family, Presentation, and Spalding.   After graduating from college, I had only seen her at Pres class reunions and functions, but was fortunate to reconnect with her, two years ago, at monthly lunches with some of our Pres classmates.  Janice and I shared many schoolday memories, as well as our own teaching memories.  What a sweet, sweet lady.  Janice will be truly missed.

My Dear Friend, Janice -

As a freshman at Presentation in the fall of 1961, I didn't know a single person in my homeroom.  At that time, freshmen spent all day together, going from class to class with their  homeroom.  I soon met Janice and Zippy (Susan Knopf Hope) and we became BEST friends.  Our teen years were filled with Teen Clubs, learning all the new dances, driving miles 'round and 'round Frisch's, going to movies at the Skyway Drive Inn, attending ball games and dances at Pres.  

Janice and I both attended Spalding, although we had few classes together as we had different majors.  We also both worked at Winn Dixie (different stores) to pay college expenses.  We remained close friends all through college and afterwards.  I was a bridesmaid in her wedding the January after graduation.  

Janice, Zippy and I have enjoyed life-long friendships - playing Bunco together, being close as we raised children, rejoicing in each other's grandchildren, always "being there" for each other through tears and laughter.    

Janice, I will miss your sweet spirit, your lovely smile and your big, big laugh! May you rest in peace.

Janice's smile is just as pretty as ever.  Hasn't seemed to change since our Pres days!  She always had a kind word and warm greeting for everyone.  I know your family will surely miss you.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the lives that Janice touched through her years.

I too attended Presentation with Janice.  I remember well her infectious smile and the laugh that brightened any day.  She will be missed.

Janice and I went to Presentation together many decades ago.  So I, like our other classmates, knew her as a young girl.  I remember her as always wearing a smile and being open to everyone.   She was young and happy and carefree, as we all were in those days.  Janice and I lost touch over the years. I saw her last at one of our reunions and recognized her immediately.  She was still the sweet girl I remembered.  I am truly sorry for your family's loss.  Janice was special.

My friendship with Janice goes back many years (40)! I have fond memories of vacationing together when our children were very young! Also getting together for their birthdays was always so much fun! Our daughters both played tennis and we "suffered through" a number of matches together! I know Janice was a GREAT teacher and touched many lives throughout her career,Former students would approach her on a regular basis! Most of all dear friend I miss your beautiful smile and contagious laugh! GO CARDS!!  susan straub

I know that the Angels are tired or hearing about how wonderful U of L has been this pased year, football, basketball (men 2-13 champs and ladies 2013 runner up, men's softball ( Big East Champs and College word series) and so much more. 
Go CARDS and watch over them for 2014.

Where do I begin, there is no way to cover all we have experienced together through our friendship. All I can say is how much I will miss your friendship, laughter, late night calls and my U of L buddy. There is no way I can ever fill the void that your loss brings. 
Knowing how happy you were when you were blessed with Stephanie and Gregg and how they have grown into loving adults warms me like seeing my own children. Be assured that Hayden will have all the love in the world to help him grow in the same manner you set forth. 
I wish I could have helped you more and know that I will always be there for Steph, Gregg and "Little Booger".

Dear Mom, 

On August 7, 1979 Sister Ann Elizabeth placed me in your arms for the very first time.  In that moment my life took a new and exciting direction with you, my mom.  Mom, I miss you so much, but I feel you are watching over me.  I am reminded of you in everything that I do.  Hayden still brings the cell phone to me every morning asking me to call you.  I tell him we can't call you, but that he can talk to you whenever he wants ( . . . so be listening.  I am sure you already are!).  He will remember you because I will make sure of it!  Here are a handful of memories that I will pass on to him  . . .  accidentally attaching a napkin (and cup) to the plane tray table with your fingernail glue, sitting on the deck swing listening to you tell me about Nana, Caribbean work-outs, marshmallows, hot tub nights, Notting Hill, 2013 National Champs, Santa Dancing, field trips, Holiday meals, two shoes, and so many more.  You are and forever will be "Diva Mom" and I love you now and forever.

I was so sorry to hear that Janice has passed.  I taught with her at St. Albert and loved to hear her laughter in the halls.

I was so sorry to hear about Janice. We have known each other for a long time since Stephanie and my son Eric went through Holy Trinity together and later I taught with her at Noe. She was such a kind person. My condolences to Stephanie and Greg.

I was so sorry to hear that Janice had passed away. She was always so kind to me during our years working together. I will keep you all in my prayers.

The Funeral Shoes

In case you attended Janice's funeral and wondered about the shoes you saw:

It started at our Uncle Earl Richard's funeral.  There was a pew of cousins sitting together.  Janice was in the middle (naturally).  She looked down and started giggling!  She had on shoes that were the same style but not the same color.  It wasn't very noticeable.  One was black, and one was navy blue.

Did she keep it quietly to her self?  Did you know Janice?  Of course, not!

She elbowed the cousin on each side of her and showed them.  They started giggling with her.  It went up and down the pew, to the pew in front, and to the pew behind.  After the service, she went around showed everybody.

She was teased, of course, and she ate it up, of course.  At the next family occasion, she wore mismatched shoes again—on purpose, of course.

So that's why you saw me in one white sneaker and one black sneaker at Janice's funeral.  Karen had a red shoe and a black shoe.  Lindsay had a pump and a sandal.  Linda had 2 brown shoes, but they weren't the same style.  The other Linda had two sandals—similar, but not matches.  And so on—Nancy, the other Karen, even Bob and John Erick in mismatched shoes.

What you couldn't see is that Stephanie made sure that Janice will be laughing and pointing at her mismatched shoes as she dances through the Pearly Gates!

Why Were We Laughing?

I can't remember why we were laughing.  We were young.  Pre-teens.  We were playing on the floor of Janice's room while the adults talked in the kitchen.  (Always the kitchen; it's the Irish.)

We started laughing, and we couldn't stop.  We giggled, and we laughed till we cried.  We laughed till our sides hurt, and we wanted to stop, but we couldn't stop.  Every time we looked at each other, we laughed more.

The adults came and asked why we were laughing so hard.  We couldn't tell them why we were laughing because we couldn't remember.

I guess it was just because Janice was with us.

It happened more than once.

Greg, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She always made me smile. I loved her zest for life. The fact that she went into teaching , after raising you and Stephanie, is a tribute to the kind of woman she was. Embrace the good time, the great memories, that is what your mom would want. Janice was one of the nicest people in Pres class of 1965. I would run into her from time to time when I would come back to Louisville.  She was always the same...friendly, talkative, interested in what was going on with me.  My deepest sympathy to her family.  I know she will be missed.

Janice lived across the street and we would stop to talk at the mailbox or when outside at the same time.  It was always nice to see Janice, smiles and laughter were a part of the every conversation.   I will miss Janice.

Dear Janice,
Our friendship goes back a lot of years - 1965 was the year "Zippy" introduced me to you and Annie, as well as a lot of your other wonderful Pres classmates. From Senior Prom and all through the years that followed, I watched a fun-loving high school girl mature into a lady who was a dedicated teacher and a loving mother.
What we all seek (especially as we get older) is that our lives have made a "difference" in some small way. As a teacher, a Mom, and a friend, you have made a "difference" in the lives of so many. Know that the friendship that you, Susan, and Annie have shared has taught me what a real friendship is all about. In good times and bad you have been there for each other, and such a long enduring bond as yours is rare in this day and age.
May God bless your family now and always, and thank you for having been my friend-

I came to know Janice in 2007 when I joined the Bunco group. We shared laughter, tears and good times cheering for U of L, going on group trips, and attending Bunco.  She greatly treasured being a grandmother, and she will be missed by many.

I met Janice as our daughters entered Holy Trinity School together. Yes, she always seemed to have a smile on her face and a warm greeting for you.  Years have passed since the last time I met her at Target.  At that time she  proudly told of Stephanie's teaching career as well as her own re-entry into teaching. She will be missed by many.  I send my love and condolences to her family.

The 40 years of experiences we have shared  will continue to live through the memories of our Bunco nights of fun, our travels together, our UL cheering parties and the days Janice gave to help me with Bruce.I thank God for these earthly blessings and  for the new life Janice will now share with Him.

I got to know Janice at Southside Elementary.  She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. All the children wanted to be in her math group and she made a point to speak to each child and include them.
I know she will be missed by her loving family. She was so very excited to be a grandmother.
