Jean B. Bailor, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 97. Born on September 30, 1928, in London, England, Jean lived a remarkable life filled with love, compassion, and service to others.
She was the beloved daughter of George and Blanche Iggleden and grew up in a family that instilled in her the values of hard work and kindness. After receiving her nursing degree in England, Jean dedicated her life to the noble profession of nursing. She worked tirelessly as a registered nurse throughout her career and retired from the Masonic Home Infirmary, where her compassion and dedication touched the lives of countless patients and families.
Jean embarked on a new adventure when she married the love of her life, George S. Bailor. Their marriage, which lasted over 50 years, was a beautiful partnership built on mutual respect, love, and shared dreams. Jean was a devoted wife, and her loss is felt deeply, as she was preceded in death by her husband, George.
Jean's legacy lives on through her four loving children: Elizabeth Petty (Paul), Sara Bailor (Bob), George T. Bailor (Fran), and John S. Bailor (Kerry). Her children remember her for her unwavering support and the values she instilled in them. Jean was also a proud grandmother to Simone Bernard (Hilton) Ashley Gipson (Jeremy) and Blake Bailor, and she delighted in every moment spent with her great-grandchildren, Gabriel and "The" Harper.
A longtime member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Jean's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She actively participated in her community and was known for her warm spirit and friendly nature. Her love for sending cards was well-known; Jean had a special talent for remembering birthdays and special occasions, brightening many lives with her thoughtful gestures.
Jean was also an avid sports fan, passionately cheering for her beloved University of Louisville Cardinals and Boston Celtics. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, often creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends.
As we remember Jean B. Bailor, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and compassion. Her legacy of kindness and care will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
